Colleen had 2 years of Pre-Vet Medicine at Michigan state University before falling ill and having to leave college. Later she started her career as a Vet Assistant in San Diego at the Cheshire Cat Clinic. Her employer encouraged her to study for and challenge the California Veterinary Technician exam. She did so and passed on the first try. After working for him for several years, life changes brought Colleen to Yuma, Az, where she found employment with Fourth Avenue Veterinary Clinic.
As a mixed animal practice, they saw everything from pocket pets, 4-H and FFA animals, feed lot cattle to show horses and everything else in between. Colleen was encouraged to add an Arizona Vet Tech licence to her resume, and I did so, once again challenging the exam and passing.
Colleen also worked in human medicine in the laboratory at Yuma Regional Medical Center, but really missed the veterinary field. When contacted by a local veterinarian, she started working as a veterinary technician again at Foothills Animal Hospital when it first opened in 1991.
Colleen had a very avid interest in horses, and team penned and sorted and also judged those events locally. She also had a Cutting horse and rode her to several wins and a Buckle!
Colleen enjoys fishing, hiking and trail rides, and spend time on the water when she has spare time.
